The department of Science and Humanities is a primal department which consists of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Language disciplines which is established in the year 2010 formally named as the Department of Basic Science. All the disciplines in the department exist as a separate division and maintain individual identities.
The Science subjects are pivotal for every engineering stream. Students are better able to comprehend and apply these subjects in their individual courses because they were taught to them in the first semester. The department was started from the inception of the college. Its objective is to provide value-based education to its budding engineers. The department has well qualified and dedicated faculty who are a blend of knowledge and experience. The strong foundation laid by the department helps the students to apply knowledge in a better way and become a successful engineer. The department comprises of four sub-departments namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Humanities. The unique strength of the department is the excellent coordination in carrying out academic responsibilities. The department has contributed to overall progress of the institution.
Physics
The Physics Department plays a critical role in laying the foundational scientific principles necessary for various engineering disciplines. Typically, it offers a robust curriculum that includes both theoretical and experimental components, designed to enhance the analytical and problem-solving skills of engineering students. The department provides essential physics courses that cover mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, quantum physics, and materials science. These courses are crucial for understanding the principles that underpin engineering applications. The department offers hands-on experiments and projects. Faculty members engage in cutting-edge research, often in collaboration with other departments. Areas of focus might include condensed matter physics, nanotechnology, photonics and computational physics. These research activities not only contribute to scientific advancement but also offer students opportunities for involvement in innovative projects. The department boasts a team of experienced faculty members who are not only excellent educators but also active researchers. They mentor students and guide them through academic and research pursuits.
Vision:
To be the foundation for all engineering knowledge.
Mission:
To groom the students with fundamental skills to enable them to simulate engineering knowledge of all fields of their choice. To provide an environment where the students can learn and use application of Physics.
Laboratories: The department has well-equipped laboratories that support a wide range of experimental and computational studies.
The Chemistry Department is a cornerstone of the institution, providing essential knowledge and skills that support various engineering disciplines. The department offers comprehensive courses in inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry. These courses are tailored to meet the needs of engineering students, emphasizing the relevance of chemistry in engineering contexts. The department comprises experienced faculty members who are dedicated educators and active researchers. They provide mentorship and guidance to students in both academic and research endeavours. By offering a strong educational foundation, fostering research and innovation, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, the department ensures that students are well-prepared to address the chemical challenges in various engineering fields.

By including courses in Kannada and English, the department enhances students’ linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding, which are vital for personal and professional development. The department emphasizes the development of strong communication skills through courses in technical writing, public speaking, and presentation skills. These are essential for engineers to articulate ideas clearly, collaborate effectively, and present technical information to varied audiences. Courses in Kannada and English literature expose students to a wide range of literary works, promoting an appreciation of cultural heritage, diverse perspectives, and creative expression. This fosters a broader understanding of social and cultural contexts.
Laboratories: English language lab facilitates the students in enhancing their English language skills. Our lab is equipped with high end systems. We have Visvesvaraya Technological University and AICTE recommended software that are being installed. Clarity with audio and video lectures are delivered for the professionals.
Language lab helps professionals clear the Linguaskill examination, IELTS, and TOEFL with qualified faculty members.
Our dedicated faculty members prepare professionals for placement and incorporate soft skills through soft skill trainers.
